A belated digital epitaph of sorts

Tue Dec 1, 2009, 3:57 PM
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

"The man is a cheshire cat: all smile and no substance. At least he disappears every now and then."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Short Version:

Probably best to remove me from your watchlist, as the chances are very slim that I'll be writing anything anytime soon.

EDIT: Just because I'm not writing doesn't mean I won't be causing trouble in the chatrooms or occasionally wandering by folks pages.

This isn't a gallery-delete 'goodbye forever cruel dA' message. I've never seen the point in that kind of thing. This is just me explaining that if you are watching me solely for the writing, you'll be potentially waiting a long time.

The Long Version:

You have probably noticed a distinct lack of activity.
This is unlikely to change. Simply put, I lack any desire to write.
Yes, there are reasons. No, they are not interesting enough to play out across the digital etch-a-sketch which constitutes a journal.

Admittedly, this isn't the first time I've arrived at this point over the years. However, previously I was refreshed by the discovery of some new poet whose works gave me a fresh perspective to the art - literally inspiring me to keep writing to reach their level, to try and connect with their spirit in a poetic sense. First it was Dylan Thomas. Then, a bit after that, it was R. S. Thomas.

However, not this time.

The final splutter of the flame was [link] - after that, I haven't really written anything I would look at twice, and I have felt no desire to try.

So, really, that's that: a belated explanation as to why you haven't, and likely won't, see any activity out of me on the writing front.

I wish you all the best of fortunes with any and all attempts to publish, and hope a good time continues to be had by all.

Benedictions.

Beloathed readers, victims all, Ave!

Nota Bene: To those classicists amongst you, who happen to read this aloud or in your head, or while out of your head, I hope you noticed how the Latin salutation and 'away' are phonetically close enough to be hot, lascivious, busty, x-rated twins. I dearly love them for their idiosyncrasies.

And, so, none may ever be sure if I am saying 'Ave!' or 'Away!'
But I assure you, I say it with the utmost sincerity.

Unitam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.

Verily so.

I take this moment to note that, if you have read this far, then there is no hope for you, and I weep for the coming generations of pap-fed, sedentary net-whores and blogosycophants. There will be tears, hopefully blood, and many a can of grotesquely named energy drinks spilled in shock and horror and vicarious orgasm. I know what you people are like.

But be that as it may: if you have read this far, and the world is doomed, what of it? I like icecream as much as the next man or woman.

But I digress.

I am writing this piece as I wish to make a public announcement for the benefit and welfare of those who are unaware of the hidden truths of the universe. I wish to educate you in the mystical ways of the cult of Al Gebra, in the worship of the Fallen Angel of Hypotenuse, and the judicious and vicious use of the varied triangles of destruction inherent in nature.

However, I won't be doing the latter at this time, because it has nothing to do with the aforementioned public announcement I am planning to make.

No, today my intention is solely limited to the following statement, which I feel to be of benefit to all humanity:

Be ready for the ascension of our Inevitable Wombat Overlords!

That is all.

You may now return to your dull, dreary routines and lives of grey, cubicled horror; your frenetic lives of counter-service slavery; the aching void that comes in the absence of stimulation.

And, woeful to say, so may I.

But remember. The inevitability of our Wombat Overlords is made manifest and manifestoed as of now.

Benedictions all!

I am REBORN! Locusts of DOOM!

Beloathed readers, victims all,

Hail.

Thunderously and with many meteorological references I bring to you my CumuloNIMBUS of an epiphany. No, don't read into that too much. Merely accept its genius.

I have studied, sought, nay QUESTED FOR and FOUND the delight of Postmodernism and Minimalism!

It came to me after my mind was sent spinning into a ferris wheel of horrors by a particularly bad attempt at list poetry, and in vengeance upon the world I immersed myself in the madness that is e e cummings, and in fact, chose to SPITE his visual aesthetic by treating it the way ALL POETRY MUST BE TREATED!!!!

By RECITAL!

My spleen presents to you my headlocusts of doom... [link]

(For the poem itself: [link] )

This, I realised was genius. Basking in the GLORY of my CREATION I saw the LIGHT in CAPITAL LETTERS.

I was Ra, the sun god. I was the explosive force of the universe, bringing forth dust, radiation, and fucked up species of marsupial. I was the ball lightning to the ecstatic altostratus. I WAS GLORY.

Out of this pantisocracy of visions and brainviolence came the enlightenment. The prime directive.

This, this masterpiece is the rediscovered wisdom of the ancients; the soul of egypt; the lifeforce; the driving force of passion; the logos; the eschaton; the BIG BANG.

This is the singularity from which all life came. This is my poetic perihelion.
This is the poemgasm to end the postmodern era and usher in a BRAND NEW AGE OF ECSTASY.

Life, Love and another RPP of Rossetti

Fri Oct 10, 2008, 5:11 PM
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

"The man is a cheshire cat: all smile and no substance. At least he disappears every now and then."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

I was struck by something last night, news from the realms of those I know, and it set me to thinking. Eventually, I felt the need to put it to words. Here then, is another dose of my musings. Feel free to disregard them.

Musashi spoke of the spirit or attitude of "Crossing at a ford" - this applies to those moments in life where you move forward, not looking back. He wrote:

"It means setting sail even though your friends stay in harbour, knowing the route, knowing the soundness of your ship and the favour of the day. When all the conditions are met, and there is perhaps a favourable wind, or a tailwind, then set sail. If the wind changes within a few miles of your destination, you must row across the remaining distance without sail."

These moment happen throughout our life, in big ways and small ways, and can be unsettling. The most obvious applications are those physical shifts in our lives: choosing to move to a new location, or a new job, or a new lifestyle - when we uproot ourselves from our current state and redefine ourselves within the context of our life.

But this also applies to relationships, and that difficult period after a relationship has ended. It is too easy to rationalise the familiar, to stay with what is comfortable, even if it causes misery - it takes no effort to stay in such a trap, and so one can stagnate.

At these times, it is important to look to the horizon, gauge the weather, patch one's sails, repair the hull, and set out once again, waving fondly to the past... but not looking back.

This is important. One cannot let their life become a shipwreck after a relationship ends - this would render the experiences and memories obtained from the relationship meaningless.

In life, we must always move forwards as an individual, continually evolving into better versions of ourselves.

Passing ~ Christina Rossetti

Passing away the bliss,
The anguish passing away:
Thus it is
Today.

Clean past away the sorrow,
The pleasure brought back to stay:
Thus and this
Tomorrow.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Christina Rossetti, like Edna St Vincent Millay, writes poetry that understands the realities of love and life. This piece is shorter, and more concise, than most of her works, but it felt appropriate.

For the original formatting of this poem, which I can never seem to successfully keep in my Journal, see [link]
